Guidelines for Project Assignment, Milestone 2: Defining the Technology Teams
Milestone 2 (10%) May 31st and June 4.
Before you start, read the following (all as pdfs in BSpace:Resources:Milestone 2)
• Ashley, M. 2002 Real Webs and Virtual Excavations: A role for digital media recording in archaeological site management. Paper presented at the UNESCO World Heritage Center Virtual Congress, Mexico City. For on-line version go here
• Ashley, M. 2003 Real Audiences, Virtual Excavations: From the Field to the File. Lessons learned in media management at Çatalhöyük 1998-2993. In World Archaeological Congress 5, Washington DC. Pdf of Powerpoint presentation.
• Gilman, P. 2004 Sites and Monuments Records and Historic Environment Records in England: Is Cindarella finally going to the Ball? Internet Archaeology 15.
What is expected for the Milestone 2:
• Choose which technology you will focus on by Thursday morning 31st May (this does not have to be your final decision). Think about the range of research you would like to conduct and the publics you would like to address. For example, you may want a laser scan of the interior of a building so that you can better understand how people negotiated through the space, but you would also like a photo of the interior that you can post on a public website about your work. Be as creative as you like—think high-tech, low-tech, and everything in-between.
• Maximum one page, double-spaced review of the technologies that would be appropriate for recording your theme, given the list of things that you would record for your theme (Milestone 1b) (due Monday June 4, 12 noon).
How to hand in Milestone 2:
• Please post your document to the discussion board on bspace and include the text in the body of the message by Monday 12 noon, June 4. There is an example of this posted.
